So there it was.... Merlin last ever episode... I can't lie to you, i was very scared about what we would get from that episode. I haven't enjoyed season 5 as much as the other seasons. We knew pretty much from the begining that it was going to be the last season and i regret that there were so many filler episodes when there was still so much to tell. The season started the best way possible : a great quest, Mordred and shirtless Gwaine. But then... not so great quests, a lot of 'what the heck is happening?' and a very slow character development. I love this show, don't get me wrong, but i was expecting so much and felt like i got so little that i couldn't help but being a little disappointed. Anyway, i'm still very behind on my episode reviews so i'm not going to talk about all the episodes here, i'm not even going to do a thorough review about the last one, but i need to express how i felt about that episode and you lucky people don't even have to read it :).

I'm not going to have you wait any longer, i loved the episode and thought it was the perfect ending to a wondeful show.

  • The epic battle of Camlann finally happened and i'm glad it didn't last very long. This was not what i wanted to see the most.
  • You Merthur shippers out there, i think you can be happy. The magic reveal was so beautiful i started crying right there. The evolution of Arthur's understanding of Merlin's magic was so touching and Merlin finally being able to be himself was a true joy to watch. What i'll remember is that in the end, what the show was really about is Merlin and Arthur's relationship... Of course Arthur could only die in the arms of Merlin, of course he needed to say thank you (although i must say this 'thank you' sounded more like a 'i love you') and of course Arthur would have loved Merlin no matter what. Their relationship (that i consider only platonic and brotherly but feel free to think otherwise... i get it ) is the heart of the show and at that time or any other time we will remember Merthur as one great love story no matter what 'love' is here.
  • In 5 seasons... 3 actually, my Gwaine was the only knight with kind of a back story. It did make sense that he would be the one ending tragically. But no matter how 'logical' it could be my heart broke watching him die thinking he had failed. It is such a terrible ending for him... he deserved so much more than this sad ending and i would have loved for him to know about Merlin's magic. And the way Percival finds him... only a few seconds before his death... telling him that he had not failed the king... Oh boy!
  • Of course we can talk about how heatbreaking Mordred's death was but he was only a player in Morgana's terrible plans and i felt like in the end he understood that his allegiance didn't lie in the right place.
  • We could also talk about Morgana very quick death. I don't blame the use of Excalibur, it made sense, i just wish they could have talked a little or try to explain how they'd ended up there.

I will now stop talking about it because

  1. i'm at work
  2. i want to leave some stuff for the actual review.
  3. i need to rewatch the episode to understand it all.

Thank you Merlin for giving me the opportunity to meet such amazing people (you know who you are) and for making of the finale one to remember!!!
